Lakewood:
A Sentimental
History

Lakewood,
Washington.
Our
Story.

A heartfelt tribute to the Lakewood of yesterday, as remembered by those who lived it.

"Today's children must see Lakewood as houses, fences, streets, businesses and parking lots.

I still think of it as dirt roads, scattered homes, lots of woods and open country and quiet and privacy. No jets. Few cars. No street or high-intensity yard lights. Sometimes the familiar sight of Jackson's team of horses pulling a steel-tire wagon.

Lakewood was a picnic on the prairie or at the sand spit or a quest for wild strawberries, blackberries, huckleberries, salal and Indian plums. A kid's territory was as far as he or she dared roam.

Let me share with you my memories of the Lakes district, some written observations of my father, a few historical details, some accounts of people who came here a long time ago and photographs of how things used to be."

The Authors.

This is our family. A branch of the family tree.

We give thanks to those who came before and made this project possible.
